TWICE, one of K-pop's hottest girl groups these days, released its fourth mini-album "SIGNAL," topping seven online charts with its new title track.
The song "SIGNAL" instantly swept major music charts such as MelOn, Genie, Mnet and Olleh after it was released yesterday.
The girl group has been putting all their title tracks on top since they debuted a year and a half ago. TWICE's winning streak began with its first hit song "Like Ooh-Ahh," followed by "Cheer Up," "TT," "Knock Knock" and the recent "Signal." The girl group even surpassed the seemingly invincible global K-pop star, Psy, who also released a new album last Wednesday. It took less than a week for TWICE to bring down Psy's double tracks "I LUV IT" and "New Face" from the top spot.
"SIGNAL" is receiving much love overseas as it topped iTunes' Album Chart in 12 countries, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. In Sweden, Brazil and Mexico, the new title track has reached the top five, as of Tuesday afternoon.
TWICE's recent achievement is particularly special as this is their first time topping the charts with a song produced by Park Jin-young, the founder of JYP Entertainment.
"We have always wanted to sing Park's songs even before we debuted," band member Jihyo said during a press showcase at Blue Square in Hannam, Seoul, Monday. "But we received many candidate songs for the title track and the most popular song at the meeting wins the shot. This time, Park's song was picked the best song by consensus of the board members."
"SIGNAL" bases its music on the hip-hop rhythm of strong 808 bass mixed with rhythmical electronic music. Park has added his signature taste for catchy sounds into the music to maximize the group's bright energy in its voices.
"We are happy to be releasing another recording after three months and we are delighted to hit the stage we have been waiting for," Jihyo said.
