70. INT. CAR-PLANE
Flint is on his phone as they travel along the surface of the meateroid, pizza slices shoot their toppings at them.
70. 내부. 자동차비행기
그들이 고기 행성의 표면을 따라 비행하는 동안, 피자 토핑조각들이 그들에게 달려 들고 있다. 플린트는 전화중이다.
FLINT: Dad, you’re okay, great! Um, I need a favor, the fate of the world depends on it.
TIM: Okay, then, skipper, what do you need?
FLINT: I just need you to go into my lab, get on a computer and e-mail a file to my cell phone.
플린트: 아빠, 무사하시군요, 다행이에요! 음, 부탁할게 있어요, 세계의 운명이 달려 있어요.
팀: 그래, 그렇다면, 선장, 뭐가 필요해?
플린트: 아빠, 제 연구실로 가서 컴퓨터 켜고, 제 휴대폰으로 파일을 이메일로 보내주세요.
Tim hesitates in horror with the notion of using a computer.
아빠는 컴퓨터를 사용해야 한다는 생각에 두려워하며 잠시 머뭇거린다.
TIM: Ummmm-uhhh ... All right.
팀: 음... 알았다.
The dogfight continues. Flint is still a bad pilot.
공중전이 계속되고 플린트는 아직도 조종이 서투르다.
MANNY: Want me to drive?
FLINT: Yeah, okay.
Manny is an awesome pilot, outflanking the pizzas with ease.
FLINT: Wow. You’re a lot better than me.
SAM: Uh-huh.
매니: 내가 운전할까요?
플린트: 어, 그래요.
매니가 최고의 조종사답게 쉽게 피자를 피해간다.
플린트: 와. 당신 나보다 훨씬 잘하네요.
샘: 어-허.
They come upon the huge intake hole that is sucking clouds into the top of the meateroid. Flint turns the doppler map and points.
그들은 구름을 빨아들이고 있는 고기행성의 거대한 흡입구멍으로 다가간다. 플린트는 도플러 지도를 돌려서 가리킨다.
FLINT: Okay, here’s the plan. Sam and I will enter the meateroid through the intake here, which should lead us straight to the FLDSMDFR. Manny, you and Steve stay on the plane. (grabs can of Spray-on shoes from Steve) Don’t spray that in your mouth. Once my dad e-mails me the kill code, we’ll destroy the machine, and rendezvous here at the western blowhole in ... how long until the world’s destroyed?
SAM: About twenty minutes.
FLINT: Just before then.
BRENT: What about me, Brent, what do I do?
FLINT: Uh, you can be president of the backseat.
BRENT: (disappointed) Oh ...
FLINT: Deploy hatch!
플린트: 좋아, 이게 우리 계획이야. 샘과 나는 여기 흡입구를 통해 고기행성으로 들어갈 거야. 우리를 FLDSMDFR로 바로 이끌어 주지. 매니, 당신과 스티브는 비행기에 남아 있어요. (스티브로부터 스프레이캔을 빼앗는다) 입에 뿌리면 안 돼. 아빠가 정지코드를 이메일로 보내면 우리는 그 기계를 파괴할거야. 그리고 구멍안의 서쪽에서 만나기로 하지... 파괴되기까지 얼마나 걸릴까요?
샘: 약 20분이요.
플린트: 그 때 바로 직전이에요.
브렌트: 나, 브렌트는. 난 뭐해?
플린트: 어, 너는 뒷좌석의 대장이 되는 거야.
브렌트: (실망하여) 오...
플린트: 출입구를 열어!
The hatch pops off like on an F-16.
출입구가 F-16처럼 뻥 열린다.
FLINT: Car upside down, go!
플린트: 차를 거꾸로 뒤집어, 가자!

해설
음식이 하늘에서 내려서 지구는 초토화 직전이다. 다급해진 플린트는 팀에게 전화해서 “Dad, you’re okay, great!”이라고 초간단 안부 인사를 한 후 “Um, I need a favor, the fate of the world depends on it.”이라고 부담을 준다. 팀은 “Okay, then, skipper, what do you need?”라고 묻는다. 플린트가 I need a favor라고 했으니까 팀은 what do you need?라고 물은 것이다. 정보 센터에 전화를 걸면 안내원이 What do you want?라고 하는 대신 What kind of information do you need?라고 물어본다.
플린트는 “I just need you to go into my lab, get on a computer and e-mail a file to my cell phone.”이라고 팀이 소화하기에는 부담가는 미션을 부탁한다. 여기서 Need you to는 ‘약한 명령’의 의미가 있다. 평소의 경우 연장자에게 부탁을 할 때는 “Would/Could you~?”라고 하는 게 적절하다. 팀은 머뭇거리면서 “Ummmm-uhhh ... All right.”이라고 대답한다.
버벅대는 플린트를 대신해서 매니가 조종을 잘하자, 플린트는 “Wow. You’re a lot better than me.”라고 감탄한다. 스피킹은 이론이 아니라 입을 열어서 행동하는 게 중요하다. 비교급 강조 부사에 much, even, far, still, a lot 등이 있는데, 상황에 맞춰 사용해보면 감칠나는 영어를 구사할 수 있다. Wow. You’re much/far better than me.라고 감정을 넣어서 말해보자.
