Bertie looks, smiles.
버티는 보면서 웃는다.
LIONEL: “Will you govern your peoples, Great Britain, Ireland...Canada, Australia and New Zealand according to their lands and customs?”
BERTIE: “I solemnly promise to do so.”
라이널: “당신은 대영제국과 아일랜드와 카나다와 호주와 뉴질랜드의 국민들을 그들의 문화와 관습에 따라 통치하겠습니까?”
버 티: “나는 그렇게 할 것을 엄숙히 맹세합니다.”
LIONEL: Louder. I can’t hear you up the back.
BERTIE: (louder) “I solemnly promise to do so.”
LIONEL: Very good.
Bertie looks at Lionel.
라이널: 더 크게! 뒤에선 잘 안 들려요.
버 티: (더 크게) “나는 그렇게 할 것을 엄숙히 맹세합니다!”
라이널: 아주 좋아요!
버티는 라이널을 바라본다.
And will you, to your power, cause Law and Justice, in Mercy to be executed in all your judgements?”
BERTIE: “I will.” (louder) “I will.”
LIONEL: Then there’s a very long bit about upholding the faith. (He looks down at the folder, gestures.) It goes on - rubbish, rubbish, rubbish - to which you finally say...
BERTIE: “The things which I have... here before promised... I will perform and keep. So help me God.”
라이널: “그리고 당신은 본인의 판단에 따라 법과 정의와 자비를 행하는데 자신의 힘을 다할 것입니까?“
버 티: “그러겠습니다.” (더 크게) “그러겠습니다!”
라이널: 그러고 나면 신념을 지키겠다는 오랜… (폴더를 보며 손짓을 한다) 어쩌구 저쩌구… 계속 어쩌구 저쩌구… 하다가 마지막으로 뭐라고 말하죠?
버 티: “지금까지 약속한 모든 것을 잘 이행하고 지켜나가겠습니다. 신께서 함께 하시길…”
Lionel snaps the folder closed, strides down the steps towards.
라이널은 폴더를 탁 닫고는 층계를 걸어내려 간다.
LIONEL: And that’s all you say. Four short responses. Kiss the book and sign the oath, and you’re King.
라이널: 그리고 나면 짧게 네 번 대답하고 나서 성서에 입 맞추고 서약서에 서명하면 이제 당신은 왕이에요.
He stops in front of Bertie, removes his spectacles,

LIONEL: Easy.

The faint clicking whir of a film projector. On the screen: archive the newsreel footage of Coronation. ‘National Anthem’ (thru screen).

Elizabeth, Bertie, Margaret Rose, Lilibet and Cosmo Lang watch. A projectionist behind by the projector.
뉴스영화 아나운서: (스크린을 통해) 오늘 그의 머리 위에 순금 왕관을 올려 놓을 겁니다.

The screen shows the archbishop turns the crown on the cushion.

MARGARET ROSE: You nearly crowned him backwards, Archbishop.
마가렛 로즈: 왕관을 거꾸로 씌울 뻔 했어요, 대주교님.
Cosmo Lang stands, steps in front of the screen, eager to explain.
코스모 랭이 일어서 마가렛 로즈 앞에 온다.
COSMO LANG: Um, someone had removed the thread marking the back of the crown, sir.
코스모 랭: 어디가 뒤쪽인지 표시해둔 실을 누가 없애버렸더라고요, 공주님.
Bertie looks towards, glances at Cosmo Lang.
버티가 앞을 보며 코스모 랭을 쳐다본다.
BERTIE: Try not to lose the thread, Archbishop here.
버 티: 놓치면 안 되는 장면이네요, 대주교님.
LILIBET: Archbishop, we’re missing papa.
릴리벳: 대주교님한테 가려서 아빠가 잘 안 보여요.
National anthem (thru screen): Fanfare in: The screen shows the archbishop places the crown on to king’s head. The screen shows guests.
국가가 울린다(스크린을 통해): 팡파르가 울린다: 화면에서는 대주교가 왕관을 왕의 머리에 씌우는 것이 보인다. 손님들도 보인다.
ALL: (thru screen) God save the King.
ELIZABETH: Very good. (pause) Very good, Archbishop.
모 두: (스크린을 통해) 신이시여, 왕을 보호하소서.
엘리자베스: 잘 편집하셨네요. (잠시) 수고하셨어요 대주교님.
She glances at Cosmo Lang.

Key Words
uphold: to support something that you think is right, fair, etc. and make sure that it continues to exist 지지하다, 받치다, 지탱하다
ex) We will uphold our freedom at all costs. 어떤 대가를 치르더라도 우리는 자유를 수호할 것이다.
rubbish: comments, ideas, etc. that you think are stupid or wrong 부질없는 소리, 어리석은 짓
ex) You’re talking a load of rubbish. 넌 순 말 같지 않은 말만 하고 있어.
jubilation: a feeling of great happiness because of a success 환호, 경축, 축하, 축제, 환희
ex) There was jubilation in the crowd as the winning goal was scored. 승리를 결정 짓는 골이 들어가자 군중들 사이에는 환호가 넘쳤다.
해설
영웅은 난세에 나고, 버티는 그 역할을 해내야 한다. 글로벌 시대에 글로벌 인재가 되려면 스피킹을 잘 해야 하는데, 스피킹 자체에 두려움을 갖고 있는 학습자들이 많다. 특히 단어, 문법은 아는데, 자신의 생각을 영어로 스토리텔링하는데 어려움을 느낀다. 라이널의 대사 “I’m gonna see what this sounds like in the cheap seats, so even your old nanny can hear.”에 스토리텔링의 기본 공식이 나와있다. 바로 쉬운 단어를 사용해서 2문장 이상 이어서 말하는 것이다. 구체적으로 I’m going to/I’d like to/I’ll~을 사용해서 생각이나 계획을 말한 후 등위접속사 and, but, or, so를 사용해서 결론을 말하는 것이다. 쉽지만 효과적인 스피킹의 비법이다.
버티 역시 “The things which I have... here before promised... I will perform and keep. So help me God.”라고 말한다. 동일한 패턴을 따르고 있다. 기본 동사의 경우 be, have, make, try, like, do, see, look, think, feel, sound 등을 잘 사용하면 웬만한 의사소통은 다 할 수 있게 된다.
