A weekend house party. Five or six friends dance to a gramophone. At the epicenter, David, a very picture of insouciance, and Wallis clutching drink and cigarette, dripping in jewelry. Surrounded by their entourage, they are the apex of chic.

David draws on the cigarette as he turns. He looks at Wallis by the fireplace. She raises her glass, taps it with the cigarette holder.

David gestures with glass, turns to him.
Wallis drinks as David walks past Bertie towards. She looks at Bertie. Bertie walks away as she drinks. She glances at the footman and ¡®dismisses¡¯ him.

David crouching by the wine rack searches through it. Bertie catches him and steps toward.

DAVID: (stands) I¡¯ve been terribly busy.
