Jim (saying in an aside): I didn't tell Michael because... I thought he'd try to help. Example: he handed out jell-o shots at the 23rd mile of the Steamtown Marathon. 마이클한테 얘기 안 한 이유는.. 마이클이 도와주려고 나설까봐 였죠. 예를 들자면.. 스팀타운 마라톤 경기 23마일 지점에서.. 마이클이 젤리를 한 컵을 주더군요.
짐은 얼마 전 마라톤 대회에서 마이클이 물 대신에 젤리를 주어 곤혹스러웠던 사건을 이야기 하고 있습니다. 악의로 그런 것은 아니지만 마이클이 나설 때 마다 일을 그르치게 되었던 것이죠
Michael Scott: Can you walk me down to my car? 짐, 내 차까지 같이 좀 가겠나?
Jim: Sure. 네.
Michael Scott: I can't help but feel partially responsible. 제가 부분적으로 책임이 있다는 걸 인정할 수밖에 없군..
Michael Scott: Little pick-me-up. Those are the best. Sugar rush. 이거 먹고 힘 좀 내~ 이게 정말 최고야.. 단 거 먹으면 기분이 좋아져.
Jim: When you were talking to Wallace, did I come up at all? 데이빗과 얘기할 때 제 얘기 하셨어요?
Michael Scott: We did talk about how handsome you are. 자네가 얼마나 잘생겼는지 이야기 했지.
Jim: Why don't we head in your office? 사무실 안에 가서 얘기 좀 할까요?
짐의 표정이 심각해 보입니다. 마이클은 자신의 실수 인정할 수밖에 없는 상황이 되었습니다.
Michael Scott: What did we.. We said... I know there were certain things we said. 아까 무슨 말을 했더라.. 몇 가지 말했었는데..
Jim: I'll just be honest with you. Earlier today, I spoke with Wallace about a promotion. And I actually think that talk went really well. Then after he spoke with you, for some reason, it felt like things had changed. 마이클, 솔직히 말할게요. 아까 회의실에서 제 승진에 대해서 이야기 했어요. 그리고 제 생각에는 대화가 잘 마무리 된 것 같았는데..지점장님과 대화한 후에.. 무슨 이유에선지 상황이 바뀌어 있더라구요..
마이클의 경솔함으로 인해 다 된 일을 결국 망치게 된 것을 아직 짐은 모르고 있습니다.
그러나 짐에게 어떻게 사실을 말해야 할지 고민하다 다시 시치미를 떼고 마는군요.
Michael Scott: That's weird. That's weird. Kind of weirding me out. 흠.. 이상한 일이네.. 희한해.. 나까지도 이상하게 만드는걸.
그러나 눈치 빠른 짐이 이 상황을 쉽게 눈치챕니다.
Jim: Did you say anything? 마이클, 무슨 말 하셨어요?
마이클은 자신도 모르는 일이라며 부인하다 결국 시인하듯 말합니다.
Michael Scott: Tell you what, when you leave this office, I'm going to call Wallace and tell him that you should get that promotion. 있잖아, 여기서 나가면 데이비드한테 전화해서 자네가 승진해야 한다고 말할게.
Jim: Really? You will? 진짜요? 정말요?
Jim: Wanna do it right now? 지금 하실래요?
Jim (saying in an aside): I tried to keep Michael in the dark. I should have known that he can do just as much damage in the dark. 마이클에게는 이 일을 비밀로 하려 했는데.. 마이클은 자신이 모르는 와중에도 피해를 줄 수 있다는 걸 알아야 했어요.
한편 마이클은 약속대로 짐이 있는 자리에서 데이빗에게 전화를 겁니다.
Michael Scott: This is David. David, this is Michael... Just wanted to talk to you about Jim Halpert. I understand that he did not receive that promotion. And I wanted to see what I could do to nudge you in the right direction. 데이빗? 마이클 스캇이에요. 짐 핼퍼트에 대한 이야기예요. 짐이 승진을 못한 거 알고 있구요. 제가 당신 생각을 바로 잡아 주려구요.
마이클은 자신이 짐을 추천하지 않았다는 사실이 들통 날까봐서 앞 뒤가 맞지 않는 말을 하고 있습니다.
David Wallace: You're changing your mind about Jim? 짐에 대한 생각이 바뀌었다는 얘기 입니까?
Michael Scott: Absolutely... not! Like I said before, Jim is fantastic, and he deserves this job. 물론.. 아니지만.. 제가 아까 말했던 대로.. 짐은 훌륭한 직원이고, 승진할 자격이 있다는 얘기죠.
David Wallace: It seems like you're cutting in and out. This is not what you said earlier. 마이클.. 내 생각엔.. 당신이 이랬다 저랬다 하는 것 같은데요. 아까 한 말이랑 다르잖아요.
Michael Scott: Here's the thing. Jim is the best man for this job. I think you should give it to him. 잘 들으세요.. 이 자리엔 짐이 적격이고, 짐을 승진시켜 줘야 할 것 같아요.
David Wallace: It doesn't change what you showed me in Jim's file. 하지만 짐의 파일에서 본 건 어쩌구요..
Michael Scott: That was an anomaly. 그 파일은 왜곡되었어요..
짐이 스피커폰으로 통화내용을 듣고 있는 상황이었기에 마이클은 자신의 말을 번복하고 있습니다.
