| The smart duo, UN, finally resurfaced on the music scene with their highly anticipated 5th album. Although fans were able to regularly catch sight of them working in movies or on the catwalks, they have been eagerly awaiting the duo's newest album for a long time. To meet those high expectations, UN came up with their finest album to date which reflects the talented artists' personal interests and thoughts. Let's meet this gorgeous, multi-talented duo right now!
Question: Welcome! The Korea Times readers are so happy to see you getting back onstage. What did you do while you were on break?
Choi: We went to school and took classes and like all the other students, sat in on the mid-term exams! Unfortunately, my grades were not that great. (laughs)
Q: Could you tell us about your 5th album?
Choi: Wow! I can't believe this is already our 5th album! We wanted to make the 5th album special and different from the previous ones we've done. Before, we focused on the genre of music the public favored or something that the company wanted, but this time, we decided to focus on the type of music we wanted to sing. Unlike our previous title songs, we chose a British style pop song "To Her (그녀에게)," for our title track.
Mr. Choi, you've done work as a model and also launched an acting career. Which is the most difficult job to do?
Choi: Everything has its own difficulties and nothing is easy. I guess for me, the main point is whether I like to do it or not. Luckily, I enjoy singing, acting and modeling on the catwalk. I like them all.
Q: Mr. Kim, while you were filming DMZ (비무장지대), you experienced what it was like to go into the army to perform your mandatory military service. How did it feel?
Kim: Well, I felt like I never wanted to go into the army (laughs). Though I was only filming a movie, it felt like I was actually in the army because I had to do everything that ordinary private soldiers have to do. What I realized is that the army is a very mysterious place where everyone gets stronger.
Q: You will also appear in a Japanese drama, which is scheduled to be broadcast soon. Are your lines spoken in Japanese or Korean?
Kim: Actually, I have lines in both languages, half in Japanese and half in Korean.
Q: Then your Japanese must be wonderful.
Kim: No, not at all (laughs). The truth is, sometimes, I don't even know what I'm saying. I just tried to imitate the tapes I was given, even the intonation and accent.
Q: The Korea Times readers are curious about what you guys were like while attending junior high and high school.
Choi: I was crazy about all kinds of sports, especially basketball. I would play basketball even during class breaks.
Kim: Even though I was the class president during the three years of junior high school, I was not a model student. I was one of the students that frequently got punished by the teachers. So, my friends called me "Ddong ban jang" (laughs).
Q: What are some of your goals for this year?
Kim: I would like to get married this year. Since I live alone, I feel lonely and would really like to have someone close to me. Of course, our fans are always around to give me support, but when I come home from work, I feel like I need someone to welcome me home.
Choi: I hope our 5th album becomes a big hit and our fans love it. I also want to have a chance to go to a camp with some of our fans.
Q: Do you have any words of wisdom for our Teen Times readers?
Choi: I don't want to tell you to study hard. Do your best and enjoy what you choose to do.
Kim: I would like to encourage you to keep Taoism in mind. According to Lao tzu's teachings, try to keep nature's law and keep coercion and artificiality away. So, in other words, "follow your instincts and do whatever you really want to do."
